TAI to built new trainer aircraft "HURKUS"


The contract of the “Turkish Primary and Basic Trainer Aircraft Development Program” after being signed between the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) and TAI, became effective on 15 March 2006. Within the framework of the program, a total of four Turkish Primary and Basic Trainer Aircraft prototypes will be designed, developed, produced and tested by TAI.The “System Requirement Review Meeting” of the program was realized in July, whereas the “Conceptual Design Evaluation Meeting” was organized at TAI’s facilities with the participation of SSM Head of Aviation Department Mr. Sedat Güldoðan and SSM representatives, on 8 December 2006. At the meeting, with the approval of the current concept, it was decided to proceed with the next level which is the “pre design activities.”Furthermore at the meeting; it was announced that the Turkish Primary and Basic Training Aircraft was named “HURKUS” after Vecihi Hurkus, who had numerous contributions in the history of Turkish Aviation.Within the framework of the Turkish Primary and Basic Training Aircraft Program, which is planned to be realized with maximum local contribution, one of TAI’s main responsibilities is to receive an airworthiness certificate from the European Aviation Safety Agency.
